Book Description
"Essential Guide to Handguns" is written to ensure that every gun owner is
prepared to safely meet the responsibilities that come with gun ownership.
From choosing the right handgun and accessories, crucial tips for thorough
firearm maintenance, tactical concealed carry options and safe storage, to
expert guidance for training and instruction in armed defense tactics--both
mentally and physically--this valuable guide will serve to ensure that you are
prepared to enter the ranks of responsible, law abiding gun owners. The Second
Amendment affirms the right of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms--in
the event that a firearm may be necessary for personal protection. This book
provides a one-stop-source of information for the new or experienced gun
owner. It provides a comprehensive look at the modern defensive handgun.
From the Publisher
The focus of this book is on the safe use of combat handguns as a defensive
tool. With violent crime on an upswing and the advent of terrorism, every
responsible law abiding adult should be prepared with a personal defense plan.
Owning firearms and knowing how to use and maintain them safely should be part
of such a plan.
This book is not intended to serve as a substitute for appropriate, personalized, live training. It is intended to help readers in selecting appropriate training for them. It is also intended to serve as a reference that beginning, intermediate and advanced handgun owners can turn to again and again.
The right to personal self-defense is protected and affirmed by our Constitution. This right is basic to a free society. However, along with this right, comes the responsibility to be a good citizen, obey the law, respect other people's rights, treat others as you wish to be treated, and be well prepared to maintain your personal security responsibly.
As Colonel Jeff Cooper so well stated, "Firearms, most particularly personal firearms, are Liberty's teeth, as pointed out by the Fathers of our country."
TOPICS INCLUDE:
* In-depth exploration of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.
* Psychological preparedness for armed self-defense.
* Safe and effective range and practice procedures.
* Basic tactical self protection tools and techniques.
* Recommendations for quality firearms and accessories.
From the Author
Our purpose in writing this book is to help the reader prepare to prevail and
survive in a dangerous and violent world. Every adult individual is
responsible for their own personal safety. The courts have already ruled that
the police are not responsible for protecting individuals--just preserving the
peace. Time and time again, tragedies are reported in the media wherein
innocent lives were taken by violent criminals, and the police responded after
the fact. If these individuals were armed, trained and prepared to use their
firearms when they were attacked, they might not have become victims. Our goal
is to help transform potential victims into responsible, law abiding citizens
who have the desire and the knowledge to take responsibility for their own
personal safety and security.

Excellent Book!!! - September 1, 2006
By P.S. (AZ)
I have been carrying handguns concealed for over 10 years and this book is
probably one of the top 5 books I've read on the subject. It's not about
tactics but more on what handguns and accessories work and tips on cleaning
and what to buy to clean your gun. They get into specifics with revolvers
and autos. I actually went through the book after reading it once and
highlighted parts to use as reference. Whether you're new to shooting or
looking to carry concealed, I highly recommend this book.
Most excellent book for beginners! - May 27, 2007

I highly recommend this book. I knew very little about handguns, when I
bought this book. This book takes you through everything you need to know
when you don't know anything about guns. From selecting a self defense
handgun to handling, ammunition, shooting, holsters, psychological factors,
and more. I believe this is the best book out there for someone just
starting out.
Very Comprehensive book - February 1, 2008
By Tracy G. (Charlotte, NC USA)
Very Comprehensive book.
It covers many aspects of owning a handgun, from actually using &
maintaining one to some important aspects of what is allowed under the law.
I only wish the author included a few more diagrams to explain some basic
concepts such as the difference in shape & sizes of various bullets and also
when he described certain parts of a handgun. All in all a 5 star book.
Prep for Handguns - September 9, 2008
By T. Mcindoe "Computer DOC" (Apple Valley, CA United States)
This is a good book to obtain if you are buying a handgun for the first
time. It gives you an overview of all of the options and rational for
choosing a handgun to fit your needs and goals. It helps you buy the right
gun the first time, and you can,t take the gun back once you have purchased
it.
Essential Guide is the standard! - August 19, 2008
By Larry M. Cliver
I have met Bruce Eimer and thanked him for his book. His work is the
standard, period. Start with this book then read David Kenik's book Armed
Response and finish with On Combat by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman.
No book can replace training... Find great training (reality based) from
people like Clint Smith and Gabe Suarez and keep training from there.
