Competent, reality based, and practical training is a must for every
responsible firearm owner. Firearm ownership has inherent responsibilities. They
include the knowledge needed for proper weapon care, the wisdom to choose the
firearm that fits your personal abilities, and the training to operate your
personal defense weapon safely and with precision. This 8-hour private class is
your fast track to develop competence in using a shotgun for personal protection
in the home. Certificates will be issued at the end of this private class. This
course of individualized instruction fulfills and exceeds the training
requirements for obtaining the Florida and Virginia Non-resident 31-State CCW
Permits.
Over the course of the day, you will learn proper handling and manipulation
of the shotgun and competent shotgun marksmanship. You will learn what the
shotgun will, and WILL NOT do. The importance of patterning your shotgun
properly is discussed at length.
The course will also cover:
- fundamental firearm ownership and use issues
- firearm safety on and off the range
- the self-defense mindset
- the judicious use of deadly force
- surviving a deadly force incident and the legal aftermath
- pertinent state and federal laws
- selecting the proper shotgun for you
- shotgun operation and weapon care
- shotgun "marksmanship"
- shotgun ammunition selection
- weapon loading and unloading
- reloading if you’re involved in a shooting situation

For those students with prior pistol training, transition to a pistol is also

The focus of this course of instruction will be to help you acquire the
essential knowledge, skills, attitude, and mindset so that you are prepared to
act appropriately in self-defense in the home. The goal is always to avoid
confrontations if at all possible, and to use a situation appropriate level of
force. The use of deadly force is a last resort, to be employed in the gravest
of extremes, to stop an imminent, immediate and unavoidable threat of death or
grave bodily harm to you, or to someone else under the mantle of your
protection.
